Spring awakens in all of us a sense of warmth and adventure; it calls us back to nature, and the Municipality of Kršan gladly answers that call. Discover our history, rich culture, and heritage, and spend sunny days exploring the beauty of our region.
As early as Saturday, May 16, you can join us for the event – the guided walk “The Bellflower Calls You to Plomin.” Explore the old town of Plomin and its historical beauty adorned with the stunning bell-shaped flowers of the Plomin bellflower, an endangered plant that decorates Plomin and Mount Plomin at this time of year. Don’t let the town’s size fool you – although Plomin is a small town, it boasts a rich history dating back to the period before Christ, two medieval churches, and one of the oldest discovered Glagolitic inscriptions.
Complete your Plomin story with traditional cuisine at Restaurant Dorina or enjoy more modern flavours at Pizzeria Burra, and recharge for further exploration and new spring experiences.
Spend your weekend getaway walking along the Plomin promenade by Plomin Bay, with views of the landscape and sea that invite you to return during the summer months as well. One of the special attractions is the “Drunken Railway,” offering a cinematic atmosphere, and while you are there, continue to the historically significant Kožljak Castle, which overlooks the beautiful Čepić field and the former lake that was drained in 1932.
A must-visit stop is the Vlaški puti Ecomuseum, which will introduce you to the social history, heritage, and traditions of Šušnjevica and its surroundings. The exhibition, accompanied by the local Vlach, or Istro-Romanian language, will further enrich your visit.
Then head towards the heart of our municipality – Kršan Castle. First mentioned in the 13th century, it changed many owners over time but retained its exceptional importance for Kršan and became one of the best-preserved castles in Istria. It also bears witness to Istrian literacy in the Middle Ages thanks to the discovery of a copy of the Istrian Demarcation document, which regulated the borders of the area at the time.
The cultural traditions of Kršan have been preserved since the last century by the cultural association KUD Ivan Fonović Zlatela through traditional dances, two-part singing included in UNESCO’s Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage, and performances on traditional folk instruments.
Tradition is also preserved in the kitchens of our homes, based on local ingredients. Wild herbs, olive oil, fish, prosciutto, homemade meat products, cheeses, and pasta enrich local dishes, and we invite you to join us at our table. At the restaurants Tri murve and Stare staze, taste some of the finest local dishes and treat yourself to the renowned delicacy – krafi.
This cheese-filled pasta has been prepared by our grandmothers for generations, and thanks to its gastronomic significance, the Krafifest event is dedicated to promoting the preparation of traditional Istrian krafi.
After lunch or while exploring the unique features of the Municipality of Kršan, take a coffee break at Cappuccino or Kršan (Kršan), TimeOut or Enigma (Potpićan), or Jezero and Učka (Čepić). Don’t forget to take home souvenirs that will bring the scents of spring and the flavours of our region into your home. OPG Đani Fajman and OPG Šahdanović will delight you with a variety of dairy products and cheeses, while Vosilla wines will provide the perfect finishing touch to your journey – ideal for moments when you share memories and retell stories of this beautiful spring fairytale with friends.
Let this spring lead you to a place where every encounter carries the warmth of home and every corner hides a new experience. The Municipality of Kršan awaits you with open arms – become part of a story you will always gladly return to.
